I was first introduced to Dr. Kelly Starrett while reading Tim Ferriss' "The Four Body" years ago, back then he was simply the goofy guy doing stretches in Tim's book. Dr. Starrett is the co-founder of San Francisco Crossfit and MobilityWod.com, he regularly works with professional athletes from a wide variety of sports, including the New Orleans Saints and Arsenal Football Club.

Since Kelly's brief cameo in "Four Hour Body" he's exploded into a celebrity in his own right. In 2013, he published his first book "Becoming a Supple Leopard" a text book on injury prevention, movement and athletic performance which was a national bestseller in the health and fitness arena. The book is incredibly high quality, tons of photographs, one of those books you leave on the coffee table and come back to time and time again.

After the most widespread and aggressive marketing campaign ever seen from Boulder-based Newton Running and the substantial buzz it created, the new Gravity III has landed. The most recent update and innovation from Newton adds another actuary “lug” to this shoe (as well as the Motion and Distance line of shoes) to make five total. Five metatarsals, five lugs. Newton has been researching and developing a five-lug shoe for years; after nailing down the design and the manufacturing process Newton finally has their five-lugged pair of runners. As a Newton veteran, I couldn’t wait to get these puppies out for some runs and compare them to the previous four-lug Gravity.

Tragedy rocked Mt. Everest as an avalanche claimed the lives of 16 Sherpas (13 dead, 3 still missing). The Discovery Channel responded by canceling its planned live wing suit jump for May 11. Locally, Denver's 4/20 celebration brought ever greater marijuana attention to the state. Running-wise, Jason Hartmann leads Colorado runners into tomorrow's Boston Marathon, ultrarunning sensation Zach Miller is moving to Colorado Springs, and Colorado runners put up a ton of fast times at the Mt. SAC track meet. Full racing recaps are included below.

It's mid-April and the WWE's Ultimate Warrior tragically became the latest pro wrestling superstar to die young. The Colorado Running Hall of Fame inducted its latest class and, with no disrespect to those that are included, it's shocking that Matt Carpenter remains outside of the hall. A new marathon is coming to town, the oddly-named Revel Marathon will send runners from Evergreen to Morrison. Full weekend racing recap follows, highlighted by top performances at California's Lake Sonoma 50.

I don't personally follow too many blogs, let alone blogs from runners who don't reside in Colorado. However, one of my favorite blogs is Zach Bitter's. Zach is in the mold of a Tim Ferriss, always experimenting and looking for the little things to improve his performance and gain an edge on the competition. It's rare that we do an interview on a non-Colorado athlete, but Zach is in an interesting guy with some great insight, so I am thankful to him for answering a few questions from RunColo.

That cheap ass Warren Buffet offered up a billion dollars to anyone who could fill out a perfect NCAA bracket, all you had to do was give Quicken loans your social security number, bank account information and birthdate. He might as well have offered up a billion dollars for anyone to get struck by Thor's Mjolnir.

March Madness, the greatest weekend of the year, offered up three 12's beating a 5 seed and a sweet sixteen run by the Dayton Flyers. The weekend was made even better when Bill Self lost to a team seeded 8 spots lower than him for the fifth time in his tenure at Kansas. Keep telling yourselves he's an elite coach KU fans!

Ok, enough hoops talk, there was some racing this weekend, not much, but there were a couple, breakdown below.

By now we have all seen them: the new maximalist running shoes. Hoka One One has had significant influence on the running shoe market during a short period of time and has launched several new models of footwear over the last many months. They will also debut several more before the end of 2014. One of the new models available is the Conquest, a new super-thick road shoe deeply entrenched in Hoka’s roots of “maximalism”.
