2008 Denver Marathon Winner Suspended for PEDs

Fresh off the newswire, Kenyan marathoner Jynocel Basweti was suspended by that country's athletics governing body for a failed drug test. Basweti won the 2008 Denver Marathon as a 22-year-old in 2:22:16. A year later he finished second, 53 seconds behind race winner Chris Siemers. Although the article says "Basweti’s 26.2-mile low is 2:26 and last year she won races in Germany and Finland," Basweti is in fact a man. Just not as fast as you'd expect a male doper to be.

The M1le - Coming Spring 2013?

Last year when Running Guru linked up The M1le on their Facebook page and hyped the $1,000,000 prize for a new world record, I commented right away, "I'll bet you $1,000,000 that the $75,000 cash prize purse isn't paid out." Some six months later, The M1le still hasn't hit the streets of Denver. I'm not going to say "I told ya so," but did some Googling for an update and here's what I found.

It was a big weekend of St. Patrick's Day racing, green beer and it all folded into Selection Sunday, in anticipation of the greatest sporting week of the year. The CU Buffs and the CSU Rams made the Big Dance, the DU Pioneers will get to host their first ever NIT game and Elvis Dumervil is without a job and the Broncos are looking for a pass rusher. It was the third weekend of March, 2013.

Pikes Peak Marathon and Ascent will test for performance-enhancing drugs in 2013 events

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. - Organizers of the Pikes Peak Marathon and Ascent are asking runners in those races to say no to performance-enhancing drugs.

This year, several runners who finish in the Top 10 in each race will be randomly selected for testing by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). Currently, no other trail-running events in the U.S. test for prohibited substances.

The CU men's basketball team suffered a horrible loss against the lowly Beavers of Oregon State, the DU Pioneers defeated Louisiana Tech for a share of the WAC Conference title and the Avalanche ended the Chicago Blackhawks unbelievable best start in NHL history by giving them their first loss in regulation on the season. It was the second weekend of March, 2013 and the Ides of March are near.
