Plantar fasciitis, that nagging heel pain that you feel one morning when getting out of bed and that gets progressively worse without treatment, is one of the most common running-related injuries. With the distinction of being one of the most common running injuries comes a slew of information and advice on the best treatment remedies. Unfortunately, the most common advice for this injury will not actually fix the underlying issues and will therefore not get you back out there running pain-free. Rest, rolling your foot on a golf/lacrosse ball or a frozen water bottle may all help your foot feel a bit better for the time being, but they will not fix the problem. Dr. Phillip Shanks, a sports chiropractor out of Evergreen, CO, offered his advice on the best path of treatment for when a runner is afflicted with plantar fasciitis.

In February, Clean Bottle introduced The Runner, which is the first and only hand held bottle to carry your iPod or smartphone. The Runner also offers ample storage for keys, energy gels and credit cards.

Since I don't own an iPhone and my HTC Evo with its much superior and larger screen size would not fit in the The Runner, I had to have my running partner Tristan Mitchell test out The Runner.

This weekend was not only filled with St. Patrick’s Day activities, but it was also packed with races locally and all around the country. Performance of the weekend goes to Boulder athlete Laura Thweatt as she travelled to Port of Spain, Trinidad, and placed an impressive third in the NACAC Cross Country Championships, helping the Team USA Women to victory. Many others competed everywhere from L.A. for the Honda L.A. Marathon to NYC for the NYC Half Marathon. Here are the highlights of a busy weekend of racing action.

The University of Colorado's home cross country course, Buffalo Ranch, offers a challenging array of trails. Running here you will travel over trails ranging from skinny, uphill, and rock covered to flat, wide, and well groomed. This course has a lot of history to it, as it is where the CU cross country teams always open up their season, and many of those runners have won NCAA championships or earned All-American accolades.

Tom Watson Park is located off of North 63rd Street in North Boulder, next to Coot Lake and the Boulder Reservoir. From the parking area you can of course run on the trails around the Boulder Reservoir and Coot Lake, but you also have the option of running on miles and miles of dirt roads. Navigating the network of dirt roads can seem a bit daunting at first, but it is quite simple after the first time you have done it. The backroads roll throughout farm lands and offer many awesome views of the Flatirons. You could park on the side of the road and really start anywhere along the route, but the benefit of Tom Watson Park is it provides access to bathrooms, water fountains, and even showers, which could be good if you are passing through town on a road trip.

"Walking (or running) with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light."

This quote stuck out to me as I scrolled through the fundraiser amounts posted by the 59 individual athletes set to run in the Centaurus Warrior Marble 12 Hour Relay next weekend. This inaugural relay, put together by the Centaurus Track and Field team, not only strives to benefit a junior teammate, Bobby Marble, who is battling leukemia, but is an event that aims to bring the Colorado running community together.

The East Boulder Trail is popular with runners, hikers, and mountain bikers alike. The main part of the trail, which goes out for about 3.5 miles is crushed gravel/dirt and meanders through farm land. After being pretty much flat up to this point, the trail begins to climb, gets a bit rocky and goes out for 2.5 more miles, for a total of slightly over 6 miles out. If you have read Running With the Buffaloes you will know of this run as "The Tank." This is because from the start of the run, and throughout most of the run, you can see a large water tank at the top of the hill, which serves as the crest of the hill that you will climb if you go out for a longer run.

Everyone faces struggles at some point in their life. It is how we overcome our struggles that we really discover who we are. Last night, I had the chance to catch up with Jax Mariash about a mission that she started last year. A running mission to run 365 days in a row for a cause. Her goal is to raise money for Livestrong.org, share compassion for what they are going through, and promote wellness through the sport, while at the same time facing the challenges that everyday life presents.

When I hear the name Ronin, I always think of the 1998 movie of the same name staring Robert Dinero. Maybe the folks at Mizuno thought Deniro was such a BA in that movie that it would make for a kick ass shoe name, if the shoe was named after Deniro, I say well done Mizuno.

The Mizuno Ronin 4 retails for $105, weighs in at 7.2 ounces in a size 9 and has a heel height of 25mm with a forefoot height of 15mm and if you know how to subtract you'll know that equals a drop of ten millimeters.

The Bobolink Trail in South Boulder provides runners with a well-groomed, flat, crushed gravel, and mainly uninterrupted trail. The length, surface, conditions, and flatness of this trail make it ideal for an easy recovery run or a normal run day. While many of Boulder's trails have somewhat rocky footing which forces you to focus both on running and not rolling your ankle at the same time, the Bobolink trail is very well maintained by the city and is almost always in perfect condition. ...

This is the review you've all been waiting for. Don't lie, you were a little intrigued when you watched Meb win the trials in his Skechers. Obviously it's not all about the shoes you wear but it can play a factor in your performance . . . or lack thereof. When people first heard that Skechers was entering the running shoe market, most people scoffed at the idea. Why do we always jump to conclusions?
