Merrell and Vibram teamed up in 2011 to create a minimalist shoe, called The Trail Glove. Previously I had not much experience with Merrells, with the exception of my winter boots, so I was curious as to how good of a running shoe they would make. When I lined up next to Adrienne Herzog in her bug huggers at last year's Scream Scram 5K in Denver, I joked with her that this was a family event. She crushed the field at that race in 17:11, just as she had at the Metro State XC Invite weeks earlier. A Dutch citizen now training in Boulder, Herzog was the bronze medallist at the 2009 European Cross Country Championships and the fifth-place finisher at that same race in 2011.
