Over the last few years, I have been doing all of my racing in the Mizuno Wave Universe 4 which was one of the lightest racing flats on the market at 3.8 ounces. The Mizuno Wave Universe 5
made its debut in early July, however having a hookup, I got a pair of Universe 5s back in May, just in time for the BolderBoulder 10K. I've run one race in the Universe 5 and a couple of track workouts.
As I opened the Mizuno shoebox and lifted the Universe 5 out of the box, I literally laughed out loud. How did they make an already incredible light shoe, 30% lighter. Yes, the Universe 5 tips the scales at 2.8 ounces, I'm not even sure how that is possible, I think my socks weigh more than that.
