Over the last few years, I have been doing all of my racing in the Mizuno Wave Universe 4 which was one of the lightest racing flats on the market at 3.8 ounces. The Mizuno Wave Universe 5 made its debut in early July, however having a hookup, I got a pair of Universe 5s back in May, just in time for the BolderBoulder 10K. I've run one race in the Universe 5 and a couple of track workouts.

As I opened the Mizuno shoebox and lifted the Universe 5 out of the box, I literally laughed out loud. How did they make an already incredible light shoe, 30% lighter. Yes, the Universe 5 tips the scales at 2.8 ounces, I'm not even sure how that is possible, I think my socks weigh more than that.

It's time to celebrate the defeat of the Redcoats, some 237 years ago and the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. While fireworks have been discouraged or outlawed in Colorado, racing has not. In fact, the Fourth of July is the second biggest racing day of the year, next to Thanksgiving Day.

In Louisville, you can check out the Let Freedom Run 5K & 10K, dress up as your favorite American superhero and all participants get a tech shirt. Down in Highlands Ranch, the Independence Day 5K will be taking place. Last year's race was won by Bridget Tschappat in 19:47 and Keifer Johnson in 16:36, the race had 627 finishers. In Evergreen we have the Freedom Run 5K, last year's race was won by Carson Aberle in 17:02 and Brooke Kish in 18 flat.

As I've said before, I find the tv show "Shark Tank" really interesting and enjoyable. Entrepreneurs go on the show and pitch investment in their company/product to a team of would-be investors (i.e., 10% of my company in exchange for $100k, and with that $100k investment we'll market product X and make a lot of money). With the rise of crowdsourcing, there are a lot of potential running-related products, films, and personal appeals seeking investment, some charitable, some for-profit. Interested to see what's out there, I took a look and shot down three for investment below. Would you contribute to any of these three?
