Seemingly out of nowhere, Colorado Springs’ Chris Vargo has suddenly become one of the country’s top ultrarunners. In 2007, he was just 18th at the Tecumseh Trail Marathon (Indiana), won some low-key races in the years in between, and then was still only 17th at The North Face 50 last year. Read on to learn about Vargo’s rise and what he has planned for the rest of the year, and just for the ladies into runner's legs, take a peek at his calves.

Jason Hartmann led the charge for the Americans and Coloradans with his second consecutive fourth place Boston Marathon finish, in 2:12:12. Forty two year old Romanian Nuta Olaru who now calls Longmont home, was the first Colorado female with a 2:42:57, good enough for 23rd place overall for the women.

To crack the top 25 times from Colorado, the men had to break 2:49:10. Looking at last year's Denver Marathon, 25th place was 2:58:56. Last year Mesa, Colorado's Glenn Randall rocketed to the front of the Boston Marathon and enjoyed 31:02 of fame as he led the Boston Marathon. His opening 10k split would indicate a 2:11 finish assuming even pacing. Randall ultimately drifted to a 2:37 finish that was good for 61st overall, but his notoriety had been etched in Boston Marathon and LetsRun lore. The term "Pull a Glenn Randall" gained recognition from runners everywhere. It's unlikely that Randall, now a more experienced marathoner, will again pull a GR, but in celebration of last year's race that left Colorado viewers glued to their TV sets for the first 10k, we'll award a case of PowerBars to the person who most accurately predicts Randall's 10k split at this year's race.
