Hurricane Sandy prevented Alisha Williams of Colorado Springs, from running the New York City Marathon, so she had to come up with a backup race, and that race was the California International Marathon (CIM). She became the first American female to win CIM in the last 12 years, in an impressive 2:34:57.

Many Colorado residents decided not to run CIM this year with last week's forecast calling for hard rains and high winds. The weather forecast was spot on, runners had to face winds of 20-23 mph and close to a half of an inch of rain by 12:00 pm.

Mario Macias was the top finisher from Colorado, finishing in sixth place overall and running a 2:20:01. Last year Macias ran a 2:15 at CIM. This year Mario has run four marathons and oddly enough this was his fastest one, just a few months ago he ran the Quad Cities Marathon in 2:23.

In 2011 the winning time at CIM was 2:11:50 for the men and 2:33:40 for the women. This year Daniel Tapia won the race in 2:16:29, 4:28:19 slower than last year and Alisha Williams' time was only 1:17 slower than last year's winning time. I'm actually surprised that the times weren't quite a bit slower than 2011, testament to how tough those elites were at the race.

The highlight of the week was Powerball, which saw two lucky individuals win the $587 million dollar prize. We also saw millions of other Americans toss away their hard earned money with odds of winning approaching 1 in 175 million.

Nolan Daniels then fooled over two million Facebook users with his bogus Powerball photo when people actually thought that a) he was the winner and b) that he was going to share it with them. Lindsay Lohan was also arrested in New York City, of course that happened a lot in 2012.

Yes, it's the final month of the year, it is December 2012. We will also have separate posts for the California International Marathon and Las Vegas Marathon.

Despite what looks like a replay of the days leading up to the New York City Marathon where Hurricane Sandy forced the cancellation of that race, three ADP marathoners are preparing to race on Sunday despite a week of ongoing storms on the West Coast.

What exactly is burro racing, well pack burro racing is indigenous to the great state of Colorado and dates back to the mining days of yesteryear. The runner must lead the burro on a rope that is limited to 15 feet and the burro must carry 33 pounds of traditional mining gear, which consist of a pick, gold pan, and shovel.

The Lions lost, massive traffic pileups in Texas and thousands of Americans lined up to buy a flat screen TV from some third tier manufacturer in South Korea. It was Thanksgiving Day 2012.

We have a lot of races to cover, the youngsters were obviously home over break as we saw a large amont of college and high school runners pop up in the local results, including one race where the fastest time of the day was only good enough for second place.
