James Mejia is an avid runner and just so happens to be running for mayor of Denver. The Colorado native was born in Denver and has run over fifty marathons, while his wife Heather has completed 26. James has three children and currently resides in the Wash. Park Neighborhood. The election will be held on May 3.

There are a lot of fast couples in Colorado, and Mike and Nicole Aish have to be in the discussion when talking about prominent running couples in Colorado. They met at Western State College and currently reside in Arvada, CO. When they're not training you can find them at the Boulder Running Company-Tech Center.

Nicole ran XC and track for Arvada West High School and then took her speed to Western State College, where she was a four-time All American. In 2005 she made her marathon debut winning the Twin Cities Marathon in 2:40:21.

Mike Aish hails from New Zealand, won multiple national titles and was a four-time All American at Western State College and competed in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics for New Zealand. This past fall he made it official and became a USA citizen.

Mike Chavez is fresh to Colorado and has already proven that he is one of the fastest guys in the state. Mike recently finished 12th at the Half Marathon Championships in Houston, running a 1:04:49 and taking second place honors for Colorado behind Jorge Torres.

Heather Utrata has won the Colfax Marathon the last two years and placed second at the 2010 Denver Marathon. She races for Runners Roost and was their top female runner for 2010. She attended Denver South high school and went to Colorado State University. This year Heather is looking to lower her 2:54 marathon PR and run an Olympic Trials qualifying time in the spring.

Doug Bell grew up in The North Star State and attended college at Mankato State University. He later moved to Greeley and started Bells Running Store in 1986. Most runners would be thrilled with a 36:26 at the BoulderBoulder 10k, but Doug Bell ran that time this year, as a 59 year old. Doug just turned 60 years old and has some big plans for 2011.

You know you're big time when you have your own Wikipedia page and Lee Troop has his own Wikipedia page. Australian Lee Troop is a three time Olympian who resides in Boulder, Colorado. The Troop's currently have a four year old daughter and his wife Freyja is expecting twin boys in the next few weeks. In September, Lee was treated for a blood clot, thus the past few months have been a hectic time for the Troop family and we wish them the best.

You don't find many ultra runners in their early twenties, let alone teenagers running ultras, but Dakota Jones is not your average runner. The 19 year old from Durango, sponsored by Montrail has splashed onto the ultra scene in 2010 and the future is bright. Dakota talks about his monster 2010 season and what's next for this running superstar.

Jessica Pixler won 12 NCAA Division II championships running track and cross country for Seattle Pacific University, where she graduated in May with an English Major. Jessica has a post-graduate scholarship and will be attending the University of Colorado for the 2010-2011 school year and will be eligible for one season of outdoor track. Jessica has that one season of eligibility left, due to a stress fracture in her back that caused her to miss her sophomore year of track at SPU.
