The Fore Miler Race was put on by the South Suburban Recreation Center. The folks at SSRC put on a number of races through out the year, but this event was new and was held at a golf course in Lone Tree. Even though the SSRC is my back yard, I had not run any of their events before.I've done a few races at golf courses, where you run around the course on the sidewalks and they are never easy, tons of ups and downs. This course was no different. The course was advertised as being 4.4 miles, but my Garmin had it a tenth of a mile too short. The race was also held the same day at the Race for the Cure 5K, which is a huge race downtown Denver, thus there are hardly any other races that same day. Which is unfortunate because the Race for the Cure is not a timed race and more a of a huge fun run/walk than a race and that is why I chose the Fore Miler Race. The race was rather small, maybe around 60 runners total, results here and had a bit of a club run feel to it, which is ok. The race was chipped timed, organized and everyone was friendly. The course had a ton of ups and downs, but well marked and volunteers were positioned at all of the key decision points. At the end of the race results and awards were done timely and my friend who won got a nice prize, as well as the top overall female. The rest of us got age group medals.Overall well done. Only complaint was the shirt was pretty weak, I don't care too much about the shirt but I know that others do, thus had to state my opinion!
This was an awesome race! Definitely hilly but running on a golf course is always worth it. Winding paths and an awesome group of volunteers and race crew made it a fun day. Will definitely be back next year!
