• rUNIFY Boulder to Unite Community with Group Runs

“Zebra stripes evolved to protect each animal as long as it stayed together in a herd. Large numbers of zebras appear to be one large animal to keep predators away. They survive together in a large group, but are vulnerable alone.”

This is rUNIFY Boulder. This is a chance for the community to finally come together through one common connection. Running. This isn't about individual groups, organizations, sponsors, coaches, or a figure-head.

rUNIFY is encouraging the running community to unite one time per month for a Sunday run. Boulder is an area where athletes are separated by group affiliation, sponsorship funding, coaching choices, specific race training, ability and experience levels. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we all could come together as a community and celebrate our love of the sport instead of worrying about which group we belong to? For too long Boulder has struggled to create a real running community and to develop a resource that anyone can use. There is too much separation. It seems everyone wants to create their own group, use only their own coaching ideas and go it their own way. They view other groups as enemies and gossip when members of different groups are seen running together. This is ridiculous. It’s only running.
Is this due to a lack of willingness to work together towards a common goal, or because something like rUNIFY Boulder has never existed?

Anonymity prevents a single person or group from taking over. This is about the entire community of runner’s instead. Who belongs to rUNIFY Boulder? Anyone who comes together for a run and ignores the lines of affiliation!

Simply meet at the location listed on rUNIFY Boulder’s website or facebook page and get to run with the community no matter your pace, age, coach or running group association. Please remember to leave your affiliations behind and enjoy the act of running. This run is about each and every active runner in the area. Bring your friends, tell your running group, and get back to the basics of community.

Maybe anonymity is the point. boulder has a ton a great runners, great resources, but SO many training groups. which would be great if it wasnt so clique-ish. lots of great coaches too, but too many are really just promoting themselves and really have their own agendas. too many egos in too small of a place. if this takes off, even a little, GREAT.

So doesn't the anonymity of the organizer guarantee that their "agenda" is followed - they set the location, time, distance, route, etc.? And what is the problem with the diversity in coaches and training groups? Isn't that providing choices for all the different runners in the area? Sure, coaches have an agenda - they think their program is best and they're trying to make a living. I personally haven't experienced coaches bad-mouthing other coaches - they know word gets around and it's not good for "business". If you don't like the methods or the "vibe" of a particular coach/group, pick another one from the many choices that exist. A little "friendly" competition between groups never hurt anybody (e.g., see BTC vs BRC/Adidas). We do, after all, race ...

I think that post #5 has it a bit wrong. This isn't about groups or coaches or forming any other group, this is about getting together just once a month as a community and not taking anything away from each unique group/coach. Seems pretty simple and non-threatening. What a fabulous idea for all of us to celebrate running and maybe getting to know some other people!!! I think that the organizer is promoting unity and isn't wanting to take anything away from any group or coached training (or at least that's how I read into this). And no...we don't all race (speaking for myself here), however I do hope that the friendly competition does continue amongst all of the competitive groups around. The community of running is much bigger than those who compete and focus so heavily on training. The community consists of people who are happy to enjoy the outdoors, people who want to stay healthy, people who want to drop a few pounds, people who run to be social, and of course people who run to improve their times. I say bring it on Boulder!

What a great thing to get everyone out there as one once in a while. No harm in that for sure. I'm will miss the first one unfortunately, but will be there in March and will convince the group I belong to to come out as well! I think that Rich Castro put it perfectly on Facebook when he commented on Runify Boulder..."It's about time we bring everyone together."

This is running. It should be simple, and rUnify Boulder is bringing that simplicity BACK. They're designating a time and place, and actually inviting EVERYONE. This is what it's suppose to all be about, running together and striving to be better - as a community. Leave your prejudices at home, we're all runners!

GREAT RUN! It was great to see individuals and groups join together and RUN together this morning! That's what this is all about. Hopefully next month more groups will pull down the walls and join the rest of the community for a sunday run!

There's talking about doing something, and then there is actually doing it. THANK YOU whoever started this up. It's about time someone brings everyone together, and leaves all the politics behind. It doesn't matter who started it, what matters is that we all come together.
