• Rizzo Wins Second USATF Colorado State Championship, Post-Race Interviews with 3rd-place Maiyo and 4th-place Neuman

Two weeks ago Pat Rizzo collected $500 at the Evergreen Town Race 10K. Now working with Brad Hudson, he added $1,500 to those winnings today at Boulder's Heart & Sole Half Marathon, which served as the USATF Colorado state championship for the distance. Rizzo's 1:08:18 placed him just ahead of Tyler McCandless (1:08:31) and Augustus Maiyo (1:08:32). Both Rizzo and McCandless are sponsored by Mizuno, while Maiyo, a US citizen, is a member of the US Army's World Class Athlete Program in Colorado Springs. The trio earned prize money of $1500, $1000, and $500.

Maiyo shares a bit about his training and his weekly mileage, plans for the coming year, and what he does in the Army.

Just off the podium, Newton's Kenyon Neuman and Jeremy Freed both dipped under 1:09 also, making the top-5 very competitive. Speaking to Neuman post-race, I must say that I hate the way my voice sounds on camera. He shares his thoughts on Newton shoes, the new Team Alchemy that he and Freed have formed, and their master's team member, Bob Weiner. Weiner, still running sub-2:30 marathons at age 46, won the master's race in a thrilling 1:15:09 finish just ahead of James Johnson. It was so close that Weiner and Johnson recorded the same gun time, Johnson a better chip time, but Weiner first across the line for the $500 prize.
