The top-3 women were in a tight pack until the finish at today's Heart & Sole Half Marathon, which served as the USATF Colorado state championships for this distance. Fort Collins' Brianne Nelson finished in 1:21:45 for the win. Nelson, a 30-year-old mother of two, ran at Durango's Fort Lewis College, and is now chasing an Olympic trials qualifer in the marathon. She says, "Running keeps me positive and motivated for life, I love setting a goal and working as hard as I can to achieve my best results. The harder I push myself through mental and physical barriers the more rewarding running becomes. I have gained more character, discipline, and life experience from the lessons running has provided me. Running is the most natural human movement, just your body performing no gear necessary besides a pair of shoes and some clothing you can do it anywhere, especially beautiful trails."
Trailing her were Frisco's Michele Suszek in 1:22:00 and Colorado Springs' Christie Foster in 1:22:02. All three earned prize money with $1500, $1000, and $500 down the line. Apologies to Nelson for not being able to catch up with her post-race, but we did get a few minutes with Suszek. In this video interview, she talks about competing in the upcoming World Mountain Running Championships and her plans afterwards. And to close the interview, will the professional go-go dancer show us her moves on video?
