• Colorado New Year's Race Results

    It was a chilly New Year's Eve and the big race in the state was the 28th annual Resolution 5K in Denver's Washington Park. With a bit of snow and ice on the roads, and temps in the 20's, kudos to runners who got in one last race before 2012 came to an end.



    Denver's Resolution 5K

    KRFC 88.9FM Resolution 5K - Ft. Collins

    Western State alum Kelly Christensen won the race with a 16:15. Sam Malmberg, from Eaton, Colorado, was second in 16:59 and third went to Jonathan Garcia with a 17:11.

    Leora Garcia, a former Western State runner, was the first lady to finish, running 18:51. Second and third went to 22-year-old Abi Bever in 19:29 and Jenn Malmberg in 19:37.

    Resolution 5K - Denver

    Highlands Ranch's Garret Wilson, who runs for Western State, bested the field on a cold New Years Eve, clocking a 16:33. His time was good enough to place 12th in the top 12 times run at Wash. Park in 2012.

    Glen Mays, 42 years of age and from Lexington, KY, was second with a 17:10. Third went to former Denver North runner Michael Nothem who finished in 17:23.

    Darby Gilfillan, a junior at George Washington High School, was first for the women in 19:09. Her time was also good enough for 12th place on the RunColo Top 12 Times at Wash Park in 2012 listing. Kelly Escorcia was second in 19:25 and third went to Berenice Gonzalez in 21:43.

    Rescue Run 5K - Colorado Springs

    Joshua Simkins from Colorado Springs was the first overall winner in 17:25. The ageless Simon Gutierrez was second, running a 17:29 at the age of 46. Paul Mann was third in 18:29.

    Amanda Ewing was the top lady of the day, racing in with a 22:02. Second went to 52-year-old Nancy Hobbs with a 23:34. Third was had by Donna Garcia in 24:23

    The 5K had 438 finishers.

    Rescue Run 10K - Colorado Springs

    Scott Spillman defeated all comers in the 10K with a 36:30. Andy Rinne was second in 37:51 and 18-year-old Philip Meyer took third in 38:38.

    Connilee Walter won for the women, running a 42:13. Tracy Thelan of Colorado Springs was second in 44:04, while third went to Kelsey Barry in 44:37.
