Elise Cranny of Niwot is one of the top high school runners in the country, and she recently capped off her junior year in track where she won the state title in the 800m, 1600m and the 3200m. Her success in track was coming off an impressive cross country season where she defeated Katie Rainsberger by a tenth of a second, to win the state 4A cross country title, in dramatic fashion.

Elise was kind enough to answer a few questions from RunColo, read on.

If they're not racing in Minnesota this weekend, the rest of Colorado's best will be in Des Moines, Iowa. Top finishers will earn a spot on the U.S. World Championships team to compete in Moscow later this summer.

Wildfires tragically dominated Colorado this week, but the weekend's racing was hardly muted. The fastest road action was in Colorado Springs, but that was just a small part of a weekend that included a trio of Father's Day races, trail and uphill racing, the Estes Park Marathon, and the usual spate of local 5Ks. Performance of the week goes to Scott Dahlberg and Laura Haefeli.

We'd just introduced one new Colorado running store, and it's time for another (and possibly another and another if rumors prove true). Vertical Runner, a small chain of three stores in northeastern Ohio with a slant towards trail running, put up the Vertical Runner of Breckenridge Facebook page today. In seven hours it's collected 69 likes. At 9,600 feet, it's being dubbed "America's Highest Running Store."

My running career spans back to 1992 when I was a freshman in high school. I've been running competitively ever since, with a few years off post college when I took up weight lifting and recreational basketball. However, over those 21 years, I've had almost every common running injury that runners tend to have. One thing that frustrates me about doctors, sports therapist or massage therapist that don't understand runners is that they will almost always tell you to stop running, it's the safe answer. Lets be honest though, there are a lot of running injuries that simply go away on their own, I have had several of these but I've also had injuries where I kept running and made it worse, that's my situation right now and it's hard to know the difference.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I'm really interested in this. I'm not rooting for anyone in particular, but I'm just really eager to see what happens in the local running retail space in the next few years. Does the Gart model work, and how does it affect other local running retailers? How will the other area stores respond, if at all? Where will Gart open other stores, and will they be Boulder Running Company stores or Denver Running Company stores? Will Gart open a store in Arvada or Stapleton before someone else?

In search of the future of Gart's Running Specialty Group, I looked to the past and although I of course don't have any answers, will share some thoughts.

A record setting 99 degree day definitely gets you in the mood to race a 5K right? Fortunately the weather will cool off a touch by the weekend with highs in the upper 80's. Colorado Race Timing will be up in Aspen, cooling off and timing the Food & Wine Classic 5K on Friday.

On Saturday, check out the Peru 5K & 10K up in Thornton. Sunday is Father's Day, so treat dad to a 5K and check out the Father's Day 5K in Arvada, great fast and flat course.

Little is known at present other than that the Denver Run House will be located near 38th and Tennyson in Denver's Berkeley neighborhood, part of the Highlands district. Group runs from the store, I'm guessing, will head to Sloan's Lake.

What do you think, does Denver need another running store, or one in this neighborhood? If you live in the area, will this keep you from driving to the bigger stores? Have you heard anything about the store that we haven't?
