At January's Olympic Marathon Trials, one very familiar face was missing from the ranks of the best marathoners in the nation. More than one person might have wondered, "Where's Tera Moody?" Typically one to be seen mixing it up with the front-runners of major road races throughout the country, and having led the American women at the World Championships only a few months before, Moody's absence was a glaringly ...

We don't run for prize money. Of course we don't, but everyone likes it. RunColo has been critical of the Colfax Marathon for not awarding prize money the past few years. This year, with a $1,000 cash award for an event record, we want to make sure that all four records fall next weekend. And we've got a list of names of runners that can comfortably break those records. ...

Everyone knows they should take good care of their body after a hard workout, and this goes beyond just stretching and getting in a good recovery meal. Sometimes what you do after a workout can be almost as important as the workout itself. Not taking appropriate care of your body can lead to your muscles and tendons breaking down over time and end in the dreaded injury cycle. The Trigger Point Performance Therapy line of products provide a great set of tools to help avoid this cycle.

Historically the Colfax Marathon and half marathon have been light on competition. Last year was the first year that any man broke 2:40 in the marathon and the first time a woman broke three hours in the marathon.

In the early years of Colfax they offered up some prize money for the half marathon which brought out a handful of Kenyans, but after 2007 the prize money dried up and even the half marathon become a relatively uncompetetive race.

Colfax Ave. has a long history of commerce from Denny Neagle seeking companionship to Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady hitting the bars, now the Colfax Marathon will be handing out a Grover Cleveland, Ron Paul's favorite president by the way. Ok, you probably won't literally get a Grover Cleveland $1,000 bill, but if you break the course record you will get $1,000.

The way that I read it is that ANYONE who breaks the course record gets $1,000, I didn't see any stipulations that multiple people can't win, but I will get clarification.

Tristan Mitchell, 26 years old, from Centennial, CO is our Mizuno/Boulder Running Company/RunColo runner of the month for April.

Ok, I'm biased, Tristan is my training partner, but I think everyone will agree that he has had an impressive 2012, capped off by an even stronger month of April. Tristan took third at the Platte Half Marathon running a PR of 1:15:46 and finished third last Sunday at the Cherry Creek Sneak 10M in 56:03 (5:36 pace). He will be running the Colfax Marathon later this month.

I love Jimmy John's, I grew up in Illinois so I was on to Jimmy John's back in the 1980's before they exploded in the 2000s and spread across the US of A like wildfire. Besides making a great sandwich, with tasty bread, I love how they keep things simple and how fast they can make a sandwich.

You go into Jimmy John's and you have two choices of bread, one type of cheese and no they don't toast their subs, that's Quiznos and it slows down the assembly line. Jimmy John's also uses the default option, you order a #12 and it comes with turkey, sprouts, lettuce, et al. I hate Subway, you want to know why I hate Subway, too many options. Tons of bread choices, tons of cheese options and the entire assembly line moves at 1/2 the speed of Jimmy John's. Businesses think that consumers want choices and options, but in reality it confuses the customer, read the Paradox of Choice by Barry Schwartz to learn about the power of simplification.

A few months ago at the Olympic Marathon Trials in Houston, Jason Hartmann had an off day. Disappointed, but not defeated, he made the decision to come back a few months later and run the Boston marathon. Despite adversity, he finished an impressive fourth place overall and was the first American to cross the finish line. I got the chance to sit down with Jason and talk to him about his performance at Boston, training in Boulder, and his love for a sport that has taught him so much.
