| Event Information: | The event is two fold. The run, in its' second year, is a mountain half marathon that begins with a climb up Crested Butte Mountain and then it becomes a rolling adventure through head high wildflowers as it slowly descends back down to the base. It is run on mostly single track with some jeep road in the mix. The hike, in its' 13th year, is a non competitive journey to the summit of Crested Butte Mountain (12,162 feet). Participants for both events are encouraged to collect pledges. The Crested Butte Summit Hike and Mountain Half Marathon is a fund raising event to benefit people living with cancer and their loved ones here in Gunnison County. Money raised from the hike helps recipients pay medical bills and alleviate the stress of daily living expenses during their cancer treatments. The Summit Hike is hosted by Living Journeys, a non-profit organization. The mission of Living Journeys is to provide financial and emotional support, education and awareness to men, women and children living with cancer in Gunnison County. In 2011, Living Journeys contributed approximately $35,000 in counseling services and financial assistance to Gunnison County residents living with cancer. |
