When I graduated with my Bachelor degree, I was in the best shape of my life. I was fit, running daily, and truly enjoying it. Grad school threw a few more items into the schedule and I slowly started to run less. After graduating with my Master's, I moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where I had 8 beautiful months of blizzard-like conditions and thus, running became even more sparse due to the weather. I love running, but hate running on treadmills. This is, by far, my biggest challenge to overcome: the treadmill. I moved to Colorado in July and honestly miss running. I have access to a fitness center at my apartment complex, but I'd rather not work out than run in place on a treadmill.

Due to my hatred towards the treadmill, I find myself nearing my heaviest which is not acceptable. 2010 is my year to get back into shape, and get back to doing what I once loved and now miss. The first week of getting back into running is the worst: stride is off, lungs hurt, and nothing is "clicking". During run 6 or 7 in a row, it all clicks, and poof, it is enjoyable again. This is my 2nd biggest challenge to overcome: consistency.

I hope this site will help me in a few ways: network with other runners; stay up to date on races in CO, and track goals, some workouts or routes I like. I don't plan on posting all of my workouts etc, I plan on keeping a detailed log on my own to track everything in detail.

Goals For This Week:
~eat out only once
~no skipping breakfast
~run daily for a minimum of 20 minutes (not including warm up and cool down)
~be in bed by 11pm during the work week.

Goals for the Month of January, 2010:
~lose 6-8lbs
~maintain consistency in running: min. 5x a week
~get enough miles under belt to start 10k training in Feb
~find and register for a 1/2 marathon in April or May, 2010 in Colorado.

It is time for me to get back to basics. To run for me for only me and no one but me. To enjoy running, enjoy burning lungs, achy legs, and to look forward to soreness in the morning. It is time to do what I love to do. It is time to stop with excuses, and suck it up. It is time. It is time.

    Jenncalle,

Thanks for the post! I was in the same boat as you after I completed graduate school and eventually put on 20lbs+ of weight that I did not need. I decided to start running again in 2006 and have stuck with it since, and earlier this year I weighed less than I did my senior year in college. Keep us posted with your progress and also if your looking for a 10k in May, the BolderBoulder is on Memorial Day.
