| Yaktrax Pro Review: Yaktrax Pro are incredible on snow and ice. I received a pair for Christmas and used them four to five times this past winter. The additional traction that they provide on snow and ice are sensational and I did not even hesitate or fear falling on icy days. Yaktrax Pro feature a "Skidlock Coil System" to provide traction. They are easy to take on and off, as they are constructed from rubber and have a "latch" that slips over the front of the shoe and a rubber horizontal rubber piece for pulling the Yaktrax up the back of the shoe. A Velcro strap that goes across the front of the shoe ensures a proper fit. They are also lightweight, weighing in at 7.5 ounces per pair. The only negative with the Yaktrax is that they are not that comfortable when you are not running on ice or snow. Often times I find myself seeking out snow/ice simply because it is more comfortable. This negative is a small price to pay for the traction that the Yaktrax provides and they are comfortable when running on ice and snow. I generally used the Yaktrax after the first snowfall, when the roads have yet to be cleared. Generally the second day, after the snow plows have been through, you will have a combination of dry roads, ice, and snow. This is when it becomes to difficult as to whether or not you should wear your Yaktrax. You have to weigh the benefits of improved traction versus the time spent on dry pavement when the Yaktrax is a slight nuisance. The furthest that I have run in the Yaktrax is 10 miles, on a snowy day on the High Line Canal. After about 8 miles my feet did start to hurt but without the Yaktraxs the run would not have been possible. In conclusion, I highly recommend the Yaktrax Pro. It's a smart investment for only $30, as it will allow you to run on days that you would otherwise be leery of running. |
